Shaun McCanna

Shaun McCanna was born and raised in southern California.  He attended California State University, Northridge where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in English literature.  After graduating he traveled extensively in Mexico and Central America before attending Gonzaga University, earning a master’s degree in English literature.  After graduating from Gonzaga he spent a number of years traveling in the United States before settling in St. Louis, Missouri.  Once settled in Missouri he taught English at a local community college before founding Flamingo Productions, LLC with producing partner Lee Ann Nelson.  Along with Nelson, Shaun produces documentaries and news packets for a number of international English language news outlets.  Flamingo’s emphasis is primarily on human rights and cultural education issues.  Shaun has also freelanced as a print journalist for Salon and the Christian Science Monitor, and has received grants from The Investigative Fund of the Nation Institute, The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, and the CALOP Foundation.
